Add or Delete Child Categories

In the screenshot, the item in the red box is the main category or "Parent Category", and the item in the blue box is the Sub Category or "Child Category".

To Create/ Add a Child Category

I. Create a new Category
II. Assign to Parent Category
III. Enabling the Category

I. Create a New Category 

1. From the Administration Index, select Product Categories > Listing
2. Click the  '+New'
3. Assign your category a category code, ensuring it is typed as all one word (please see screenshots for example)
  1. Tick the Active checkbox: If you want this Product Category to be active.
  2. Title, using proper Title Format
  3. Add a useful category Description
  4. Choose whether you want the products in the category to appear in grid or list view
  5. If you want to display a product carousel, click the checkbox
  6. Assign the number of products to appear in the carousel
  7. From the drop down, choose whether you want the carousel to display based on Year to Date Sales, or just randomly.
4. Click 'Save' once all fields are filled in to your satisfaction. This will bring up new options.

II. Assign to Parent Category 

  1. After clicking 'Save', a new set of options will pop-up, Click ' Parent Categories →'
  2. This is where you add the code of the main category you want to add it to. 

III. Enabling the Category

To ensure that this new category exists under the Browse Categories menu you will need to:

  1. Next, go to Administration Index > Product Categories > Filters
  2. Find 'Browse Products' (or the appropriate menu item) in the list and click the blue '' to its left side.
  3. Find the new category and ensure that the checkbox is checked.
  4. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen.
  5. You might want to bust cache and recreate the index. It should now appear under the top level menu item on the site.

I. Create a New Category 

Step 1: From the Administration Index, select Product Categories > Listing



Step 2: Click the  '+New'



Step 3: Assign your category a category code, ensuring it is typed as all one word



Step 4: Click 'Save' once all fields are filled in to your satisfaction. This will bring up new options.

II. Assign to Parent Category, After Creating a new Category, you can now set up the hierarchy:

Step 1:  After clicking 'Save', a new set of options will pop-up, Click ' Parent Categories -->'




Step 2. This is where you can type the name or the code of the "Parent category" you want to add it to. 


wait for the auto-complete to show up and select it and then click the + button



III. Enabling the Category

Step 1: Next, go to Administration Index > Product Categories > Filters


Step 2: Find 'Browse Products' (or the appropriate menu item) in the list and click the blue '' to its left side to show the "Child Categories"

Step 3: Find the new category and ensure that the checkbox is checked.


Step 4: Click 'Save' at the bottom of the screen.



You might want to bust cache and recreate the index. It should now appear under the top level menu item on the site



Remove Child Categories

  1. From the Administration Index, select Product Categories > Listing
  2. Click  on the category you want to edit
  3. Click Child Categories →
  4. On the Child Category page
    1. Click  for the child category you want to remove
    2. Click Yes to confirm
